The Swiss crossover ensemble CROME experiments with two different synergies: between contemporary jazz and chamber music, and between saxophone and string quartet. Saxophonist Sam Urscheler has created a unique style of music for his quintet: written composition blends with improvisation, flavours of jazz, classical and world music are combined with modern playing techniques, and all five musicians are given an equal chance to “have their say”. From funky rhythms to lyrical melodies, wild solos to floating soundscapes – CROME’s first album, “Komorebi”, pulls out all the stops.
